Project Details
Cooper Tacia was awarded a contract to construct Enviva’s Biofuel Plant Building in Epes, Alabama – now the highest-capacity wood pellet plant in the world. Our work was completed in August 2025 with the official ribbon cutting in November.
This project was rewarding and complex for many reasons. First, four contractors were working on different aspects of the facility on site, requiring daily meetings to ensure safety and efficiency while allowing enough flexibility to achieve our shared goals. Managing crane logistics was also necessary. Second, the equipment required for the plant was so large, we had to construct the building around it. Working with Irondale Industrial Contractors, we did just that, constructing a floor of steel, inserting the equipment, then constructing a floor of steel above. Sequencing and cooperation among the team were key to project success.
The 120,000-SF facility stands more than 100 feet tall and features six floors. The first and fifth floors are more than 30 feet high to accommodate the equipment. In addition to construction, Cooper Tacia also provided design solutions, and we were awarded an office and warehouse renovation on site.
