Gallo Pelon

Hospitality

Project Details

Cooper Tacia was approached by Angela Salamanca of Centro to upfit the unfinished second floor of her building into Gallo Pelon, Raleigh’s very first Mezcaleria. The space was designed by in situ studios and is truly one of a kind. Principal Architect, Matt Griffith, and his staff ingeniously blended modern architecture with Angela’s Columbian roots and artistic tastes.

The space is located on Wilmington Street in downtown Raleigh. Egress and fire codes associated with the downtown location, as well as historic commission guidelines, made the project particularly complicated. A lot of work was done at night and Sundays so that new exits could be constructed while the downstairs restaurant remained fully operational. A few features were a new rooftop deck, new stairwells, new bar, new bathrooms, moving steel partitions, and a service elevator to move food from the downstairs kitchen.
