Project Details
Cooper Tacia was contracted to do renovation work on different levels of the North Carolina Museum of Art. We prepared the building for exhibitions by modifying wall space and floor plan layouts and by opening up windows for greater lighting. We also expanded and renovated some classroom space that is used to teach children during field trips to the museum.
We had a lot of fun working on the project! The entire museum staff, from the security guards to the maintenance crews to the folks in the Office of Planning and Design, were a pleasure to work with. Sam Adams, the Project Manager for the Office of Planning and Design, oversaw all of our work from start to finish and is a very talented architect.
The original building was designed by a celebrated architect, Edward Durell Stone (http://www.edwarddurellstone.org/). His many works are magnificent and include the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, and the North Carolina Legislature Building. We appreciate that our State houses its $1+ Billion art collection in a building that is a work of art unto itself. We are also very privileged to have had the opportunity to leave a small mark on something so special.
