St. James Seafood

Hospitality

Project Details

Cooper Tacia was approached by Owner Matt Kelly to construct his newest restaurant venue, St. James Seafood. The project was designed by architect Sarah Felson of Belk Architecture.

The space is located in downtown Durham and was an extensive renovation of a historic building. The condition of the building presented a lot of challenges: the roof had fallen in and had to be completed replaced, there was an unmapped storm drain cistern under the building that made the installation of the grease traps and sewer lines very difficult, the fresh air for the kitchen hood system had to be brought in through an exterior wall that bordered a neighbor’s property requiring easement issues to be worked out and the entire building electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems had to be replaced.

A few features of the project are the restoration of the historic porcelain floor tiles, wall to wall white subway tile, brass portals, custom-built walk-in cooler, completely new kitchen, repaired historic iron storefront, tile mosaics, custom banquets, and marble counters.
